Welcome to my Space!

I have been enjoying the time off since my retirement, spending much of the warmer weather cutting up fallen trees with a chainsaw. I suppose that is why I've had trees on my mind so much, and probably why I chose a tree to be this year's holiday image.

Please enjoy my creation and share it if you like. I have included a version without a text message, as well as versions with text messages in English and Russian. Also, each version is available in sizes to fit screens set to 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024 pixel resolutions.

I created these images using the POV-Ray ray-tracing program (version 3.5). This program uses C++-like syntax to render individual objects in a scene (perfect for object-oriented languages, right?). The Universe was generated using Chris Colefax' Galaxy #include files (written for version 3.1, but very functional in version 3.5) and seeded with the value of "(clock value -.526)*2e5"--or a rather large number. Much like our real universe, this image was generated in a random fashion around a bit of order.

Oh, and I created this Web page using the vi editor on a Unix machine (SCO Unixware 7.1)...because I can!

I ask that you share these freely with family and friends, but please mention that these are to be freely enjoyed without profit or compensation. If you need assistance getting the image to work as a background, drop me a note, tell me which operating system you are using and I'll send you easy and free instructions. Go forth, travel the Internet, and share!

Happy holidays,

Scott
